Why Choose Waverats Softboards?

The surfers responsible for WAVERAT’S, hand-shaped their first surfboards 50 years ago from solid balsa wood in the Victorian bay-side suburb of Williamstown.

They learnt to surf the wind swell generated at the local Williamstown beach when the South-Easterlies blew. Years spent surfing the Vic coast from Phillip Island to Apollo Bay fine-tuned their surfing experience and helped in the design and manufacturing process.

A life of global surfing adventures has resulted in the development of a surfboard that caters for the WAVERAT in all of us.

Understanding the essential need for a RIGID CORE that will respond to the body’s movements, resulted in a SAFE, DURABLE DESIGN for WAVERATS PERFORMANCE SOFTBOARDS.

Developments in FIN SYSTEM DESIGNS have enable this BASIC DESIGN to be CUSTOMISED to suit the various requirements of the SURF SCHOOL industry.

Since 2015 we have experimented with new SHORT BOARD designs to bring performance surfing on Softboards to the growing army of GROMS and RIPPAS.

The result is an AUSTRALIAN DESIGNED PERFORMANCE BOARD especially built for AUSTRALIAN SURF CONDITIONS.

Even today we are in the ocean daily – be it on a SUP, Surfboard or Kiteboard – dependant of surf and wind conditions, so we have daily first-hand experience with our products – the benefit of dealing directly with the Designer/Manufacturer

We are TRUE WAVERATS.

You do not need to be a world champion surfer to ride the waves on our performance softboards – but you may well be a budding champion – or maybe just love paddling around in mother ocean.

SUPPORT AUSTRALIAN INNOVATORS in the AUSTRALIAN SURF INDUSTRY

Technology

Since 2012, Waverats have been experimenting with various manufacturing techniques and material – especially lightweight re-enforcing composites.
The basis of our designs is a combination of an EPS Core with sequential Epoxy lamination processes with varying hi-strength materials to achieve an optimum strength to weight ratio, providing a high performance Softboard.

To achieve safety and comfort, quality durable soft materials are used in the finishing of the outer surfaces of Waverat Performance Softboards.

An innovative fin system provides the drive to move you across the face of wave.

Benefits

Our soft surfboards have been recommended by the national governing body for surfing and many Australian local authorities have made soft foam surfboards compulsory as hire boards on their beaches.

Favoured by surf schools, Waverats surfboards are constructed from durable soft foam, making them an ideal choice for the novice surfer and they suit adults and children alike.

Because the boards are soft, risk of injury is minimised. There’s no wonder that they are the most popular choice for surf school fleets in Australia and around the world.

Waverats surfboards are extremely buoyant enabling beginners to catch waves easily and, due to the stability of the boards, standing for the first time is much easier.

Waverats softboards are incredibly robust.

We have always dealt directly with the owners of Waverats Softboards to tweak the designs and ensure we received a surfboard that performed as it needed to.
